Shoulder Pads - Helping to Powerdress the 80s!Shoulder pads helped define an era of 80s power dressing, in an 80s material girl sort of world! Seriously, all the girls and women, wore shoulder pads in their blouses, jackets and dresses, by around the mid 80s. Televison influenced our interest in the 'must have it' kind of lifestyle, and setting trends in 80s power dressing, and the use of shoulder pads. There are so many 80s shows influencing our style. Days of our Lives, The Cosby Show, Dallas and Dynasty, just to name a few. These shows have a familiar fashion theme - affluential power dressing.

If you were a working woman, and/or in the media spotlight, chances are, you would have had jackets and dresses with shoulder pads. Shoulder pads broadened out the silhouette, and encouraging the term of power dressing. Women were out starting to be in the workforce more and more, competing with the men for the top jobs. Here's a photo of Lady Di, with shoulder pads.
Accessorise your 80s power dressing outfit with large earrings and necklace, or a big brooch. Fashion a scarf into a dressy tie. Keep the accessories as lavish, stylish and excessive looking, without being tacky. For your hair, use mousse on damp hair, and blow dry waves using a circular brush. Pull the hair tight into the brush and blast with hot air. Be careful not to take too much hair around the brush, or it can get very tangled. Repeat all around your head. Part your hair on the side, and finish with plenty of hair spray.
